Combined Head - Eye Tracking for Immersive Virtual Reality

چکیده
Real-time gaze tracking is a promising interaction technique for virtual environments. Immersive projection-based virtual reality systems such as the CAVE allow users a wide range of natural movements. Unfortunately, most head and eye movement measurement techniques are of limited use during free head and body motion. An improved head-eye tracking system is proposed and developed for use in immersive applications with free head motion. The system is based upon a head-mounted video-based eye tracking system and a hybrid ultrasound-inertial head tracking system. The system can measure the point of regard in a scene in real-time during relatively large head movements. The system will serve as a flexible testbed for evaluating novel gaze-contingent interaction techniques in virtual environments. The calibration of the head-eye tracking system is one of the most important issues that need to be addressed. In this paper, a simple view-based calibration method is proposed.

Eye Mark Pointer in Immersive Projection Display
We developed a pointer in 3D virtual space, using an eye tracking system as a sensor. The eye mark pointer is installed to a virtual environment system which provides stereoscopic vision with an immersive projection display. The circular polarization stereoscopic vision enables us to use the eye tracking system in the immersive projection display. The eye tracking system obtains relative gaze d...
متن کاملReal-time 3D Face Reconstruction and Gaze Tracking for Virtual Reality
With the rapid development of virtual reality (VR) technology, VR glasses, a.k.a. Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs) are widely available, allowing immersive 3D content to be viewed. A natural need for truly immersive VR is to allow bidirectional communication: the user should be able to interact with the virtual world using facial expressions and eye gaze, in addition to traditional means of interac...
متن کاملTowards Gaze Interaction in Immersive Virtual Reality: Evaluation of a Monocular Eye Tracking Set-Up
Of all senses, it is visual perception that is predominantly deluded in Virtual Realities. Yet, the eyes of the observer, despite the fact that they are the fastest perceivable moving body part, have gotten relatively little attention as an interaction modality. A solid integration of gaze, however, provides great opportunities for implicit and explicit humancomputer interaction. We present our...
متن کاملImplementation of EOG-based Gaze Estimation in HMD with Head-tracker
Head-mounted displays (HMDs) are effective devices for creating immersive virtual environments. Intuitive movement field-of view (FOV) is possible in virtual reality (VR) space with a HMD equipped with a head-tracker. However, gaze targets are not accurately detectable by the measurement of head movements alone. An eye-tracker is needed to determine gaze positions; however, such trackers curren...
متن کاملA Cost-Effective 3D Interaction Approach for Immersive Virtual Reality
One of the main factors that has impeded the proliferation of immersive virtual reality systems in mainstream society has been the price involved in setting up such systems. This paper presents the design of an inexpensive 6 degree-of-freedom optical tracking approach which is suitable for 3D interaction in an immersive headmounted display virtual reality system, along with various design issue...
